What is Canal Art?

Canal Art is a traditional decorative style that originated in the 19th century among the boating communities of England's canals and waterways. It involves the intricate hand-painting of narrowboat exteriors and interiors with vibrant and intricate designs, typically featuring floral motifs, geometric patterns, and castle scenes in idyllic landscapes. This unique art form not only served as a means of personal expression for boat owners but also helped to beautify and distinguish their vessels along the canals.

However, Canal Art is now on the Heritage Red list, facing the risk of fading into obscurity. To combat this, myself and my colleagues are dedicated to preserving and promoting this cherished tradition. We work tirelessly to keep Canal Art alive, sharing its beauty and significance with the world through our hand-painted creations. Each stroke of our brushes is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding this valuable aspect of Britain's canal heritage for future generations to enjoy.
